Project Overview
As part of the first stage of the Phillip Island Community Hospital development, the new Urgent Care Centre in Cowes was delivered to enhance access to urgent healthcare services for the local community and visitors.
GENTEC contributed to the project by supplying STERISAN® clinical basins with matching shrouds for installation throughout the new facility. These handwash stations form an essential part of the clinical infrastructure within the Urgent Care Centre, supporting everyday infection prevention practices in a high-traffic healthcare environment.
Project Requirements
The Urgent Care Centre required clinical handwash solutions that could:
• Support effective hand hygiene in a high-use urgent care environment
• Meet the functional requirements of modern healthcare facilities
• Integrate seamlessly within the new clinical fit-out
• Provide a clean, durable, and easy-to-maintain solution
• Conceal plumbing services for a streamlined, hygienic appearance
GENTEC Solution
GENTEC supplied its STERISAN® Clinical Basin System with matching shrouds for installation throughout the Urgent Care Centre at Phillip Island Community Hospital. The STERISAN® Basin and Shroud System is compliant with the revised Australasian Health Facility Guidelines (AusHFG) Part D, Revision 8.
STERISAN® basins feature a rear offset waste design, specifically developed to position the waste fitting away from the direct water stream. This helps minimise water impact directly into the drain outlet and supports conditions that may reduce splash and aerosol generation during use. The basin geometry also incorporates sloped bowl surfaces, assisting effective water drainage towards the rear waste outlet.
To support both hygiene and maintainability, the detachable shroud encloses pipework while allowing convenient access to the drainage system for servicing and maintenance. Designed to recess neatly into the underside of the basin with no gaps, the shroud can be easily removed to access and clean P-traps, supporting routine maintenance procedures and assisting in the management of biofilm build-up.
Together, these design features provide a clinically appropriate solution that supports infection prevention, simplifies maintenance access, and ensures a clean, integrated installation within the healthcare environment.
