Capstan Tapware

Commercial projects need more than a tap they need the correct handle type, material, and compliance pathway for the specific environment. Gentec’s CLEANLINE commercial tapware range covers three clearly defined families: Capstan Tapware for schools, public amenities, and general commercial washrooms where traditional round-handle operation is required and accessibility is not mandated; Cleanline Lead-Free Brass Lever Tapware for accessible bathrooms, healthcare, and commercial projects requiring DDA/AS 1428.1-aligned lever operation and NCC 2022 lead-free compliance; and GPURE® Cleanline Grade 316 Stainless Steel Lever Tapware for hospitals, aged care, and hygiene-critical environments where zero-lead construction, laminar flow, and maximum corrosion resistance are clinical requirements. Every product across all three families carries Lead Free WaterMark certification, a WELS water-efficiency rating, and compliance with AS/NZS 3718 and AS/NZS 4020, backed by a commercial warranty. Use the comparison below to identify the correct specification pathway for your project.

Capstan Tapware FAQ

What is the difference between capstan and lever tapware?

Capstan tapware uses round turn-handles that require a gripping and rotating motion, making them non-compliant with DDA/AS 1428.1 and unsuitable for accessible bathrooms. Lever tapware uses elongated handles (100 mm or 150 mm) that require significantly less force to operate and support DDA/AS 1428.1 accessibility requirements. Both handle types are available in the CLEANLINE range.

Which Gentec tapware supports DDA/AS1428.1 compliance?

Both the Cleanline Lead-Free Brass Lever and GPURE® Cleanline Grade 316 Stainless Lever operation when installed per the standard’s guidelines. Capstan tapware does not comply with DDA/AS1428.1 and cannot be used in accessible bathrooms.

Are Gentec CLEANLINE tapware products compliant with NCC 2022 lead-free requirements?

Yes. All Gentec CLEANLINE lead-free brass and stainless products carry Lead Free WaterMark certification confirming compliance with the NCC 2022 lead-free standard – mandatory for all tapware in contact with drinking water from 1 May 2026. Documentation is available for project records.

When should Grade 316 stainless steel tapware be specified instead of lead-free brass?

Grade 316 stainless steel lever tapware (GPURE® Cleanline) should be specified for hospitals, aged care facilities, pathology laboratories, food-processing environments, and any space where clinical infection-control standards require zero lead content and laminar flow at the outlet. Lead-free brass lever tapware is appropriate for accessible bathrooms, general healthcare facilities, and public amenities where clinical-grade hygiene is not mandated.

What WELS ratings do Gentec CLEANLINE tapware products carry?

Gentec CLEANLINE tapware is available in 4-star, 5-star, and 6-star WELS ratings depending on the product variant. All products carry current WELS registrations. Specific ratings and registration numbers are on individual product datasheets, available from the Gentec technical team
