How to Choose

• Confirm the facility classification (correctional, secure mental health, behavioural health unit) against relevant state health or corrections department fixture guidelines before shortlisting products – requirements vary by jurisdiction and risk level.

• Overlooking that a secure facility may also require AS1428.1 accessible sanitary ware for some rooms – anti-ligature and accessibility requirements need to be checked independently, not assumed to be mutually exclusive.
• The most common misconception: that ‘anti-vandal’ and ‘anti-ligature’ are the same specification.
