Background
The Sunshine Coast University Hospital (SCUH), located at Birtinya in Queensland on the Sunshine Coast opened in 2017. Spread over an area of 20 hectares, it is Australia’s latest teaching hospital. The greenfield facility took four years to be built and cost $1.8 billion.
The Brief
The requirement was for point-of-use tapware, and Gentec was chosen as the partner to supply 2000 Thermostatic Mixers to provide safe water at pre-set temperatures. Gentec’s Tempset range of Thermostatic Mixing taps is ideally suited for healthcare projects as it is point-of-use. The range includes single-lever progressive mixers, which alleviate stagnant water; minimise the risk of Legionella, and offer stable and safe water even at varying conditions.
The project is designed as a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) and Gentec worked extensively with the builder Lendlease and plumber Beavis & Bartells to develop the products. The product warranty was extended by five years to cover the entire span of the Public Private Partnership. The Gentec team also worked closely with Spotless to train their team to ensure maintenance of the products as per the required standards.
Commenting upon the successful completion of the project, George Joukhadar, CEO, Gentec Australia, said: “The Sunshine Coast University Hospital project is one of the largest we executed. Our Tempest range is perfectly suited for healthcare applications and when safety concerns are of utmost priority. We are certain that our installation at the project will serve the local community for years to come.”
