Stainless Steel Tapware With Zero Lead

A risk-free and eco friendly alternative to conventional brass fixtures

Tapware for commercial, healthcare, hospitality, industrial and scientific applications is under the public spotlight.

As per an analysis of 212 drinking water samples conducted in Australia, almost 100% and 56% of samples contained detectable concentrations of copper and lead, respectively. Lead contamination in water is a known health risk and has been publicly highlighted globally since 2010.

Lead contamination in water is responsible for several health issues – more so in vulnerable sections of society such as young children. This is because lead is a cumulative toxicant that can lodge more easily in young children. Pregnant mothers bear the risk of premature birth or miscarriage due to lead consumption.

Plumbing products containing lead (pb) beyond 2.84% are a significant source of contamination of household drinking water, and as deemed by the World Health Organisation (WHO) – no level of lead is safe. Public health guidance by enHealth in Australia can be read here.

Eco-Brass as an alternative

In markets such as the US and the UK, talks of using ‘Eco-Brass’ have gained ground in recent times. While significantly safer than conventional brass (with a lead component of up to 0.25%) fittings, Eco-Brass is still low-lead instead of being completely lead-free.

Stainless steel: a viable option

Gentec’s Gpure range of stainless-steel refined water solutions do not contain any lead or copper: making them 100% safe, hard-wearing and environmentally friendly.
